The Dirty Cakes

Sometimes the most inventive music can slip through the cracks. It’s unfortunate but it’s true. For that reason it is great to see a band like The Dirty Cakes with a small but growing fanbase that will surely expand on an international scale in the coming months and years.

For those of you who don’t get out enough and think all Today’s music is bland, I say, listen to The Dirty Cakes and open your mind.

The Dirty Cakes are a fusion of influences ranging from pre-war Berlin cabaret to jazz, swing and metal. This music really defies a quick classification but in the interests of brevity; think Jacque Brell crossed with Dixieland (and as the finest TV chefs would say) “with just a hint of” Metallica for flavor!

There are touches of any number of various other influences as well but the really great thing about this band is that while many of the musical forms they incorporate are quite old, it never turns into a nostalgia trip. The music of The Dirty Cakes is classic and modern at the same time. Like any quality work of art, this is not a passive experience. You need to make that little effort to connect with what you’re listening to but once you do you will hear music with real vitality.

My suggestion? Give The Dirty Cakes a good listen, you will not be disappointed.
